# Installation

> Download and install 1Archive on macOS, create or join your organization, and sign in. Includes system requirements and steps for first-launch setup.

1Archive is a native desktop application for macOS. This guide walks you through downloading the installer, completing the initial setup, and signing in to your organization for the first time.

## System requirements

1Archive currently supports **macOS** on Apple Silicon (M-series) Macs.

| Processor        | Apple Silicon (M1 or newer)                              |
| RAM              | 8 GB                                                     |
| Storage          | 2 GB free disk space for the application and local index |
| Internet         | Required for sign-in and initial organization setup      |

  Intel Mac support is not available in the current release. Windows support is
  on the roadmap, check [recallapp.com](https://www.recallapp.com) for updates.

## Download and install

  <Step title="Download the installer">
    Go to [recallapp.com](https://www.recallapp.com) and click **Download**. The download is a `.dmg` disk image file for Apple Silicon.

  <Step title="Open the disk image">
    Open the downloaded `.dmg` file. A window appears showing the 1Archive app icon and your **Applications** folder.

  <Step title="Drag 1Archive to Applications">
    Drag the **1Archive** icon into the **Applications** folder shortcut in the installer window.

  <Step title="Launch 1Archive">
    Open **Finder**, navigate to **Applications**, and double-click **1Archive** to launch it.

    <Tip>
      If macOS shows a security warning saying the app is from an unidentified developer, go to **System Settings → Privacy & Security** and click **Open Anyway** next to the 1Archive entry.

## Sign in and account setup

When 1Archive opens for the first time, you'll be prompted to sign in. 1Archive uses your organization's account for authentication.

    On the sign-in screen, enter your work email address and click **Continue**. You'll receive a magic link or be redirected to your organization's single sign-on provider.

    If your organization uses Google Workspace or another SSO provider, click **Continue with SSO** and follow the prompts.

  <Step title="Create or join an organization">
    After signing in, 1Archive asks you to select or create an organization.

    * **Joining an existing organization**: If a teammate has already set up your organization, select it from the list. Your administrator may need to approve your request before you can access the catalog.
    * **Creating a new organization**: Enter your organization name and click **Create**. You become the organization owner and can invite teammates later from **Settings → Team**.

    1Archive walks you through a short onboarding sequence that shows you how to connect a drive, run a scan, and search your library. You can step through it or click **Skip Tutorial** to go straight to the dashboard.

## Keeping 1Archive up to date

1Archive checks for updates automatically in the background. When a new version is available, you'll see an update banner in the app. Click **Update Now** to download and install it, the app restarts automatically after the update completes.
